300,000 Apps By The End Of 2010, What Else?
December 6, 2009
Yes I do place "What else's" everywhere lately and yes it is because of Nespresso's last ad with George Clooney and Jon Malkovich, but since I got myself one of their machines I think can use the line a couple times right?
So researchers over at ADC did some tech predictions and actually got a lot of coverage this week, this mainly because one of their point is that they believe in a 300,000+ App Store by the end of next year, here is their take on it:
We predict at least 300,000 iPhone applications by the end of 2010, many of the new apps coming from well-known Global 2000 business and consumer brands -- and attracting more consumers and business people to these platforms as their most commonly and heavily used clients it will be a watershed year for the ascension of mobile devices: For the first time, over 1 billion such devices will access the Internet. Smartphones will become strategic platforms for commercial and enterprise developers, with the number of iPhone apps tripling, and Android apps quintupling. And we expect to finally see Apple introduce the 'iPad.'Let me complete it: I predict there will be a new iPhone, Apple will upgrade its computers, people will buy more apps than ever, we will see many new "iPhone-killers" and so on and so on. How can they make money from predicting the obvious? What they didn't consider on the other hand is that if Apple completely opens up the doors of iPhone apps distribution, then we can basically stop counting apps, there would simply be no more point. It will also be interesting to see if the iTablet features the App Store. I'm ready to believe that we can reach the 300,000 point even tho it looks like this number seems to be coming from nowhere, the question is what will those apps be? Are we going to be flooded with Games, Books, Music or Fart apps ? What would you like to see on the App Store?
