AT&T Responds To Operation ChokeHold, Plays Bold
It seems like it's going to take a lot more than Operation Chokehold to scare AT&T into investing their infrastructure.
Indeed, AT&T responded to Fake Steve's operation Chokehold yesterday on CultOfMac, and in their opinion the whole operation is just "an irresponsible and pointless scheme to draw attention to a blog."
Furthermore AT&T's Spokesman actually doubts that the action will go through or if it would actually have any incidence on the network.
Here is their answer:
We understand that fakesteve.net is primarily a satirical forum, but there is nothing amusing about advocating that customers attempt to deliberately degrade service on a network that provides critical communications services for more than 80 million customers. We know that the vast majority of customers will see this action for what it is: an irresponsible and pointless scheme to draw attention to a blog.
Fake Steve already answered AT&T, in his opinion "Chokehold", with its wide media coverage, is already a success and the actual irresponsible pointless scheme is AT&T's strategy.
By lowering their investitions as to keep the additional revenues coming from data plans as profit has, he believes, led to a situation where America's wireless network is similar to what you would get in Port au Prince during a storm.
Consider this fact: AT&T, a huge wireless provider in the United States, cannot reliably connect calls in New York City.
