WhatsApp Gets An Update, Lets You Now Send Pictures, Videos And Voice Notes
December 11, 2009
The excellent WhatsApp application just got updated and is bringing some nice new features to the iPhone messaging world.
If you never heard of WhatsApp, it’s a very popular iPhone messenger app featuring Push Notifications. Its most interesting feature in comparison to similar apps like Ping is its ability to go through your iPhone’s contact list and automatically add all your friends who also installed it. No need to look for your friends usernames/pins/id’s anymore.
This new update is quite interesting as it now allows you to send pictures, voice notes or even videos directly from your iPhone. Here is the official changelog:
- send video, audio, and voice notes (media transfer works only if both parties are using WhatsApp 2.3) - message delivery notifications ("S" is received by the Server with push notification sent, and "D" is received to the Device of your chat partner) - select custom push notification sounds - enable/disable message time stamping - enable/disable message preview in push notifications - full localization into german, spanish, french and italian - many enhancements and bug fixesAnother nice point is that the update is free for those of you who already own the app. Indeed, WhatsApp main competitor Ping had already a picture sending feature but only as an in-app purchase ($0.99).
