Gameloft Raked In $25 Million From The App Store In '09

February 2, 2010

As you may have already concluded from Gameloft's last announcement, the company had a pretty phenomenal 2009.  It was so great, in fact, that the company saw an overall sales increase of 11 percent from 2008 even after they completely stopped publishing boxed games, and some of that success can be attributed to Apple's App Store. In 2009, Gameloft achieved sales of roughly $170 million, and mobile games accounted for 94 percent of that handsome sum. The company's mobile games revenue grew by 12 percent over the last year, which is apparently due to how successful they have been at distributing games via the App Store. According to TechCrunch, Gameloft's App Store revenue increased 231 percent year-over-year, bringing in approximately $25 million. In the fourth quarter alone, App Store sales accounted for about 22 percent of the company's total revenue. Gameloft's CEO Michel Guillemot also sees the potential in the iPad's power and uniqueness, as the company expects to have enhanced versions of their current games available in the App Store and hopefully iPad-specific games sometime in the future.
