Macworld 2010 - Hands on Sneak Peek of Bounce On 2

February 15, 2010

From Macworld: Team Phobic gave us some hands on time witht their upcoming game Bounce On 2 following up their hit Bounce On. Bounce On is a traditional platformer with a little red ball rolling and bouncing through the levels with tilt controls. Team Phobic has stated that Bounce On 2 is building upon the winning formula of the original, and giving you more. There will be three worlds with about 100 levels total for you to bounce your way through. Also the graphics engine is beefed up with a 2.5D type theme giving you 3D effects on some of the platforms and objects. Also there will be different physics effects for interacting with the environment, as well as lighting effetcs. The actual gameplay is relatively the same, but also enhanced. The biggest addition is the key system with each level giving you different keys to collect as you would stars in Super Mario 64. You play through a level, progressing to collect one key, and then you go back in, and you’ll be able to access a different path to collect a different key. There are four power-ups now, including shield, fireball, and ninja (double jump). Three boss battles are included as well, and the story picks up right were the fifth world in Bounce On left off. In every level there will be some collectibles that are for completionists, and those who want a challenge. The items aren't required to beat a level, but are nice side adventures adding to replayability if 100 levels isn't enough. Bounce On 2 looks to build on the fun factor of the game improving on everything, but mainitaing the core that made the first one so good. There are more checkpoints, and the game saves progress at death even in boss battles. Plus+ will be included again for level time online tables. Team Phobic has stated they will have an iPad optimized version of Bounce On and Bounce On 2 so it won’t be simple pixel doubling, but truly taking advantage of the more powerful graphics, and larger screen real estate. Also the tilt will still be appropraite on the larger device. Bounce On 2 will be priced at $3.99, and is expected to be finished in about a month. If new worlds are added they will be in-app purchases, as this is a full product with three huge worlds where the original Bounce On shipped with only one world.
