Macworld 2010 - Thoughts From the Show Floor

February 15, 2010

AppAdvice was live at Macworld for the entire show, and we were running around getting as much information about iPhone/iPad apps as we could. In our running about we didn’t find much time to write up our information, and share it with you. We will try to get out as much information as possible in the coming days so stay tuned. The biggest thing we tried to find out was the ipad plans of developers, and the biggest response was that they’re considering and planning on making an iPad version, but can’t disclose any information. Another major thing we experienced was the sheer amount of people at a show that was thought to be dead without the presence of Apple. Though compared to last year it was about a third of the size, contained in one hall, and just seemingly more cramped. We spent most of our time at the Mobile Application Showcase, and found out a bunch of goodies regarding apps for iPhone/iPod Touch, either brand new or improving on existing products. Mac apps were also suprisingly relevant for our site with the great potential of iPad versions of the outstanding mac apps. There was definitely a bunch of hardware, and almost every company can’t wait for the iPad, and some even had mock-ups on hand. There were numerous events during the week, which were highlighted by the final one, the iPad event. There was a chance to win an iPad, and everyone was excited to find any details, especially from a panel of experts. The excitement quickly disapated as the event unfolded with nothing noteworthy at all, and just a five person discussion on everything we already knew about the iPad. As a matter of fact the panel provided no insight what so ever, and was the least we learned the entire time there. Apple could have still showed support for Macworld without being there, by providing a demo iPad. Instead there were foam boards with iPad screens pasted on them. Overall the event was less mac centric, and all the booths were cut down in size as well. Overall we had a great time, and we will be back next year. Stay tuned the entire week as we try to give as much insight as possible of our great time.
