As I was reading PPCGeeks' revelations about Microsoft's next phone OS (yes, we do keeps tabs on Apple's unfortunate competition) I realised one thing, it sounds quite a lot like iPhone OS.
Microsoft took a lot of heat last week after their former VP's column in the NYtimes "Creative Destruction" accused them of having a serious innovation problem. Then when you see that after being in the mobile OS business for 10 years now they are basically trying to make an iZune, you realise he maybe had a point.
So let's see what Microsoft is changing in its new OS, according to the rumor:
- No multitasking: Windows Mobile 7 will only authorize 1 app to be running at a time, while the other ones will be "paused" in the background (no pandora while surfing).
- Push Notifications: to palliate multitasking issues, WinMo 7 should come with Push notifications.
- No Flash: They apparently didn't manage it implement it yet, or did they?
- App Store only: You will only be able to install apps through a centralized marketplace
- Single Interface: Users won't be able to personalize their UI anymore
- Timing: September 2010
Let's get serious here, did Microsoft seriously manage to pick out every single thing iPhone users complain about?
Hopefully this is just a rumor because otherwise, they can just shut down the division now and spare themselves the embarrassment.
