Plants Vs Zombies Downloaded Over 300,000 Times Since Launch, Fastest Selling App To Date

Apparently you aren't cool if you don't have Plants vs Zombies installed on your iPhone or iPod touch. PopCap has revealed that their best-selling desktop game has now become the fastest-selling iPhone app yet. Plants vs Zombies has been downloaded over 300,000 times since its launch nine days ago, setting a new record for App Store launches. The game vaulted into the number one paid app spot within 24 hours of its launch and had remained there up until late yesterday. Thanks to all of those downloads, the game has already grossed over $1 million.

“Plants vs. Zombies is our latest major franchise to make the jump to iPhone, and from the early customer and critical feedback it appears to be a great adaptation of the game,” said Andrew Stein, director of mobile business development at PopCap. “There's always a concern when bringing a computer game to a mobile, pocket-sized device that something will get lost in the process, but in this case the overwhelming consensus is that Plants vs. Zombies is even more fun on the smaller touch screen!"

That's not the only good news PopCap was willing to share today. The company has also revealed that Bejeweled 2 has become the first paid app to reach 3 million downloads in the App Store. If you have played a PopCap game on your computer or on your iPhone, none of this should really come as a surprise. The company makes great casual games, there's not much else you can say about it.
