Sneak Peek: Hands On With The Hero - Become a Superhero!

February 22, 2010

The Hero is an upcoming game from from Traplight studios, that is being published by Chillingo, and has had two deluxe trailers. Now you can play as a super hero on your iPhone flying around saving the day. You get to do all of the typical super hero stuff from stopping bank robbers, catching falling babies, putting out fires, and defending the city against ninjas, zombies, and aliens. We got a hands on build of the game, and the first thing you notice is the design of the entire game with super high quality production values. That’s definitely great, but how does it play? It plays even better than it looks with a virtual stick in the bottom left, and a boost button in the bottom right. You fly past the deluxe cityscapes looking for the next target to destroy which are each identified by little arrows. You need to fly into bombs, oversized bees & spiders, tanks, and UFOs. When you fly into the enemies it damages them, and larger enemies will require more hits, and some boost hits as that increases your damage. The Hero is practically invincible, and instead of a health meter you have a fame meter which is what the city’s population thinks of the hero. If you let enemies and fire take over they will like you less, and if the meter depletes it’s fame over (the game’s pun). To boost your fame you fly over citizens leaning out of windows, and give them high fives. The game has a campaign mode consisting of fifteen levels as well as an unlockable survival mode which gives four city sizes to survive in. As you progress you also unlock special abilities with three in total including freeze enemies and boom near enemies. Chillingo’s Crystal is included for online high scores and achievements. The Hero really feels great in your hands, and provides a unique iPhone experience. It’s smooth, and fun flying around smashing into baddies of all different types with varying enemies and storyline by campaign mission. If you’re anticipating one iPhone game in 2010 make it The Hero. We will keep you updated on any details, and will have a full review once it hits the App Store.
