Sneak Peek: Hellkid - Hook Champ Plus Canabalt Equals Fun?

Hellkid is an upcoming game that combines the hook and swinging mechanic of Hook Champ with the endless running and jumping style of Canabalt. It then uses new style graphics rather than the old school style of both of those games.
The hell kid is known as Devi is extremely interested in finding out about humans, and becoming a human. Devi tries to find some information only getting a response to stop looking, and be the devil you are.
Devi runs forward like Canabalt, and you tap to jump over gaps, and then tap and hold while in the air to activate hook. As you're running there is an infinite number of blue and orange flames (known as souls) to collect like you would coins in Sonic. The game begins in the Valley of Soul that has twelve levels, which are just like twelve checkpoints.
When you reach the sixth checkpoint, you unlock the valley of despair which is known as extreme mode, and you can begin from there. Online high scores and achievements will be included as well.
The game truly feels like playing hook champ, but making it more faced paced action based like Canabalt. It's super addictive, and even more so than Canabalt which is saying something. You can find yourself spending tons of time with it, and then there is an extreme mode to unlock as well as online high scores and achievements to get.
You have to be on your toes as you have the objective of collecting all of the souls that require tons of jumping, but make sure you're prepared for all of the gaps. Then as you progress the game speeds up, and more of the gaps require hooking, and even multiple hooks in one jump.
Hellkid is extremely well done, and it's nice to see smooth graphics on top of gameplay mechanics where we've only seen polished 8 and 16 bit graphics. Your sprinting along with volcanoes erupting in the background, and the entire theme as though you're running through hell. Every hook results in a nice animation of devi spinning out of it when completed.
The game was submitted on Friday and will be available soon. We will have a full review once it's released.
