Banzai Labs' Beautiful Planet has been relatively successful since it first appeared in the App Store in December '09, and really, how couldn't it be? The photographs provided by Peter Guttman, the explorer, author, and traveling photographer extraordinaire, really do capture the beauty of our entire world. But the iPhone's screen is rather small, so bringing the app over to the iPad to give you a much higher resolution glimpse of the world just makes sense, and that's exactly what Bonzai Labs has done. Beautiful Planet HD for the iPad is, at least for now, like the iPhone/iPod touch version of the app, just with larger and higher resolution photographs. The app is essentially meant to mimic a traditional travel book while also giving you a more intuitive way to navigate through the 570+ photographs spanning seven continents, 160 countries, and three decades. Beautiful Planet HD allows you to manipulate a map of the world to find an area you are most interested in seeing photos from. Images are brought up on the display in full-screen and can be cycled through with the flick of a finger. Tapping on the screen will bring up a subtle navigation menu that allows you to view a short passage for the photo you are looking at, save it to your camera roll, play through the images from start to finish, and more. Beautiful Planet HD will be available on launch day for $4.99. You can actually pick up Beautiful Planet for the iPhone and iPod touch right now on sale for $.99, but one lucky reader won't have to because we have a promo code to hand out. To have a chance at winning a Beautiful Planet promo code, just leave a relevant comment below before 11:59 PM PDT today, March 31st. We will then randomly choose one lucky winner. This giveaway is only open to U.S. iTunes account users.
