First iPad App Testing Stats Are Out

March 20, 2010

Flurry, the mobile analytics company specialized in app usage has just released its very first report on... iPad app usage. Wait... what? Yes, iPad app usage. As we've told you earlier, some developers have already managed to put their hands on Apple's upcoming shiny new toy to test their apps, and they've been using it.

Fortunately, Flurry has already managed to tap into these testing sessions and pulled together some first usage/test stats. Above, you can see what categories of apps have been ran on the first physical iPads out there, not including apps tested on the iPad simulator from the SDK.

As you can see, it looks like games are getting a very large piece of the cake, followed by Entertainment and Social networking. Does it mean Games will play a major role on the iPad? Well, yes and no. While I do believe they'll probably be just as present on the iPad as they are on the iPhone, iPad games are clearly over-represented here simply because big game developing companies had it much easier to put their hands on test iPad units.

Indeed, I don't believe Apple will bother providing you with a preview iPad if you're doing a note taking app, if you're EA games on the other hand, it's a different story.

Anyway, it's still great news to hear that iPad apps of all kinds are already being developed and tested. The next report should be however much more revealing.
