Help Rayman Make His Great Escape Today
March 1, 2010
Gameloft's port of Rayman 2: The Great Escape for the iPhone and iPod touch is now available in the App Store.
Rayman 2: The Great Escape was originally released in 1999 for the Nintendo 64, Playstation, Dreamcast, and PC. At the time, the game was heralded for bringing a new standard to 3D platformers, which is probably why Gameloft chose to bring it over to the iPhone and iPod touch.
In Rayman 2: The Great Escape you must guide Rayman through various 3D environments using on-screen controls in an attempt to rescue his friends and reap the rewards of their magical powers. The game features 45 levels where you must run, climb, swim, ski, and fly using Rayman's helicopter hair, and defeat enemies by chucking orbs at them. Like every good platformer, you will also be able to search, discover, and collect 1,000 different items which should keep even the most seasoned platforming veterans busy for some time.
Basically, if you are into platformers, this is your game. The only shortcomings so far seem to be the lack of checkpoints or a quick save system (a call will ruin your game and maybe your day), and the free-look swipe controls can apparently be cumbersome.
Rayman 2: The Great Escape is now available in the App Store for $6.99.
