Hit PSP Minis Title 'Blast Off' Rockets Into The App Store
March 8, 2010
Halfbrick Studios has decided to try their luck at developing for a new platform by porting their hit PSP minis game, Blast Off, to the iPhone. I know what you are thinking, usually this is the other way around with iPhone developers porting their games over to the PSP, but money is money no matter where it comes from, right?
Blast Off reminds me of my favorite gravity-based arcade puzzler, Gravity Sling, just with a bit more interaction and no Spirograph effects. In the game you must control a speeding rocket ship in order to pick up astronauts and transport them safely to the warpgate. You will be doing this by slinging your ship through space around planets and black and white holes, all of which have different effects on your ships movements.
Each planet, black, or white hole has a different amount of gravitational pull or push. You can steer your ship somewhat towards or away from them by firing your rocket's engines, but it only has a slight effect on your movement. Collect astronauts while avoiding all of the obstacles in as little time as possible to obtain the highest rank across the 45 included levels.
The game also features four difficulty settings, two gameplay modes, and OpenFeint integration.
Blast Off is now available in the App Store for $.99, a relatively small price to pay for a game that normally costs $2.99 for the PSP and sports less features.
Embedded below is a trailer for the XBLA version of Blast Off, but it at least gives you an idea of the gameplay.
