The Count-Up Begins! Opera Mini Submitted To Apple For Review

March 23, 2010

Today Opera Software announced that Opera Mini for iPhone was officially submitted to Apple for review. To help promote and celebrate this achievement, the company has started a count-up timer on their website and is having fans guess when they believe the app will be approved. The closest guess will win an iPhone 3GS. For those of you who missed the news, Opera Mini is a new mobile browser for the iPhone that uses server-side rendering to improve page load times. The company claims that Opera Mini will be able to load pages six times faster than Apple's own Mobile Safari.
“The Opera Mini for iPhone sneak peek during MWC told us that we have something special,” said Jon von Tetzchner, Co-founder, Opera Software. “Opera has put every effort into creating a customized, stylized, feature-rich and highly responsive browser that masterfully combines iPhone capabilities with Opera’s renowned Web experience, and the result is a high performing browser for the iPhone.”
The question is when will it be approved?  Head to Opera's website and make your guess (a free account is required to guess and see the count-up timer in action).  There doesn't seem to be an option to guess that the app will be rejected for using server-side processing, so you will have to pick an actual date.  It's all fun and games until someone doesn't get approved. Check out the video below demonstrating Opera Mini's raw speed.  You just may be impressed.
