AT&T Unveils New MicroSIMs For iPad 3G, Possibly Next iPhone
Boy Genius managed to snag some photos of the new microSIM that will be powering your data in the iPad 3G. As you can see in this photograph, the new SIM card design has the same credit card size appearance as previous models but it now sports perforation for the new micro size design. This setup pretty much gives AT&T (or any other GSM provider), the option to go with either standard SIM or microSIM from the same card. Only thing is once you punch out the card for microSIM use, you won't be able to use it in a standard SIM slot. Perhaps we see a third party create an adapter to reuse the microSIM in standard slots? It could be similar to the adapters we use for microSD cards.
The popular belief right now is that the next iPhone will also be using the same size chip. Wouldn't it be great to be able to transfer our card from our iPad and share the 3G plan with our iPhone? It's probably wishful thinking but we'll find out more on June 7th. For now, expect to see this new card in your iPad 3G beginning tomorrow.
