iPad Exclusive: Want Multitasking On Your iPad? Use Desktop

April 1, 2010

As much praise and hype that Apple is receiving for the magical iPad, critics have been quick to point out a serious shortcoming in the wonder tablet's arsenal of features: running multiple applications simultaneously. To help plug the gap until we (hopefully) see multitasking with the next iPhone OS refresh, developer Aqua Eagle is bringing us the next best thing in Desktop for the iPad.

Desktop is a utilities app that allows you to open multiple windows with each offering an array of reference tools and utilities. Taking advantage of the iPad's extra screen space, these windows can then be opened simultaneously from within the app to help improve productivity. Think of it as App Box Pro with instant access to multiple utilities at the same time. The in app utilities include the following: Web Browser, Dictionary, Unit Converter, Language Translator, Calculator, Currency, Maps, Email Composer, Weather and Device Stats.

Windows can be sized, scaled and moved around to fit the user's preferences. You can, for instance, open a window to compose an email while enabling another window to browse the internet or view a map. The layout is entirely customizable and should prove to be handy to help you get things done.

Desktop for iPad is a launch title and is available now for $4.99 on the App Store. Queue it up in your downloads and be ready when that shiny new iPad arrives in your hands this weekend.
