Unconfirmed: iPad System File Hints At New iDevices

April 4, 2010

We all have our own way to celebrate the purchase of a new gadget. Some just hug it, others take it apart, and there are also those who can't help but go mess with the system files right away. An iPad fanatic of this last kind apparently got lucky already and claims to have found there references to some unannounced iDevices.

More precisely, according to BGR's source a system file in iPhone OS 3.2 (the iPad OS) would contain the following model references:

  • iPhone3,2
  • iPhone3,3
  • iPod4,1
  • iProd2,1
As a reminder, the iPhone 3GS and the 3rd iPod touch are referred to as iPhone2,1 and iPod3,1. As for the iPad, which previously appeared as iProd1,1, it's now being referred to as iPad1,1. If legit, this news would confirm that Apple is indeed prepping not one, but two new iPhones (possibly one for Verizon); a new iPod touch;  as well as a new iPad (with front facing camera?).
