Converse Transforms Your iPhone Into A 2 Way Foreign Language Communicator

May 4, 2010

Learning a new language is tough. You could always resort to pocket dictionaries but lugging these things around isn't always a simple solution either since pronouncing words in some tonal foreign languages could risk you insulting your out of town friend. Which is why the solution presented by the upcoming iPhone app Converse is so brilliant in its concept.

Converse employs a face to face instant messaging approach that splits your iPhone screen into two interfaces: one for you and one for your foreign language friend. To communicate, each of you just need to input your message using your own keyboard with your own native alphabet. The app automatically translates your message and it appears ready to read in the other user's native language. It makes for a very simplified approach to communicating that doesn't require you even being able to pronounce words in a foreign tongue.

The app will be made available on the App Store shortly and a super sized iPad version is being teased on the developer's website as coming soon. Currently, the Converse app supports over 50 different languages but there is no indication as to pricing or how many languages will be included with the purchase. We'll be sure to have more on this very innovative app as soon as it hits the store.
