Firefox Home, Coming to an App Store Near You

May 27, 2010

That's right, Firefox Home is coming to the App Store very shortly, but what exactly is it? Well, it has had two other names before: Weave Sync and Firefox Sync. What it does is gives users access to all of their Firefox browsing history, a list of their recently closed tabs, bookmarks, and the Awesome Bar, all of which are encrypted. As Mozilla states, it provides a "get up and go" sort-of experience. It's not a complete surprise as Mozilla did announce it had something in the works last October. It's interesting however to see that instead of bringing Firefox to the iPhone, like Opera did; they are just bringing some of Firefox's top features on top of the built-in WebKit browser. Alright, so what Do We Know About It?
  • Available for iPhone and iPod Touch.
  • Being submitted next month.
  • It will support bookmarks, history, and tabs.
  • The application will work on the iPad, however, it will not be optimized for it.
  • It is a one-way sync.
  • It will be encrypted.
  • It is FREE.

What do you think about it? Or should they be bringing a full-blown browser to our iPhones?
