Forget The Magic 8 Ball: Opinionaided Offers Real Advice

May 4, 2010

Ever have a significant other ask whether an article of clothing makes them look fat/tall/skinny/insert adjective here? Of course it's a must lie situation if you want to escape to see another day but fortunately with the power of crowd sourcing applications and your iPhone, you can direct those questions online to friends, family or total strangers and get a second opinion. With developer Kurani Interactive's new app Opinionaided, you can get real time advice and answers on any questions you might have. After registering for a free account, you simply submit your query to the service with an accompanying photograph if applicable. Needing to know if those jeans you just bought look good on you will require a visual aid, of course. You can post your question to other friends and family that have also signed up for the service or your can go brave and post it for public consumption. It's the ultimate Hot or Not scenario but it can offer up some feedback on just about any decision dilemma you might be facing that day.

The app offers up a simple interface with buttons to allow you to Ask your question, Vote on other user's queries and view Results from any questions you have posed. Some of the polls listed range from the mundane (Is Dunkin Donuts Coffee better than Starbucks?) to the weird:

Of course for any crowd sourcing application to really take off, you're gonna need a crowd to either submit questions or have actual people around to vote on them. The app has only recently been made available but I managed to go through the public forum fairly quickly. If enough people decide to use this application, you'll be able to achieve enough public opinion to make the entire idea worthwhile. Then again, you could also just enlist opinions from your personal contacts of friends or family. I know my family always has an opinion on everything.

The developers indicate they do eventually plan to charge for this app but they haven't mentioned a price. For now, the question whether to try it out or not should be easy. It's free.

Opinionaided is entirely free to download and available now on the App Store.
