iPad App Breakdown: Face Fighter HD Face2Face

May 3, 2010

FaceFighter HD Face2Face ($3.99) by Appy Entertainment, Inc. is a fighting game that is more edged towards humor than a realistic sim. You fight head to head with various characters, and even can make fighters of your friends. Your opponent fills the screen, and you have four buttons at your disposal to try to knock them out before they do the same to you. You have two ounce types, a kick type, and a block.

The game itself: Face Fighter is a fun game a few times through that lasts longer with the humor and friend connectivity. It has a simple gameplay mechanic with only four buttons at your disposal so there isn't much strategy.

The main aspect of the game is adding photos of your friends, and then beating them up. The game has a great mechanism to degrade the photos as though they're beaten up. It's absolutely hilarious beating up a friend, and then even sending them the final shot of their bruised face.

The game feels more like a button masher than anything else though it's still definitely fun. Whether your beating up one of the stock images or a friends, depending on the difficulty you select you can be in for quite a fight. Each fight is scored, but there is no type of online connectivity for those score.

The iPad version features iPad native graphics of the iPhone version as well as a brand new multiplayer system. You get to fight head to head on the same device against a friend where the screen is split in half with one face on one half, and another face on the other half. This is the most fun in the game as you can fight against a person while facing them with their face on screen that you're smacking around.

The game is simple fun for a few spare minutes in your day maybe when you want to blow off some steam. The game gets receptive quickly, and it has such a simple gameplay mechanic. Unless you like beating up more and more people you know, there isn't much reason to play this app that many times.

The iPad multiplayer adds some incentive if you have friends around, but if it's not multiple changing people the same problems exist. Face Fighter is worth considering depending on how much you like humor in a fighting game, and how simple you want it to be.

If you own the iPhone version: If you own the iPhone version you're in luck because it's one of the best looking running at 2x on the iPad. There isn't as stark of a contrast between the iPad and iPhone version who wing how well made the iPhone version is. The iPad multiplayer is the only difference in content, and it's definitely fun.

If you have multiple people to switch off playing head to head on your iPad then you can see the use, and fun of the upgrade for most though it's not worth the additional cost of $4.

If you only own an iPad: If you only own an iPad this is one of the better fighting games on the iPad with the genre lacking so much. The multiplayer is fun, but the game lacks the replay factor for $4. There are better purchases for the iPad.

If you never bought the iPhone version: We never reviewed the iPhone version, so this can act as a review for that version as well. For $1.99 the game is fun a few times, but lacks any replayability, and the humor wears off pretty quickly. Also you don't get the best part of the ipad version the multiplayer, so this is worth considering depending on if you like a lot of humor in a simple fighting game.
