iPhone And iPad Apps Gone Free: BlueCam, Mega Jump, MetalWars, And More

May 22, 2010

Today's list features a handful of awesome iPhone games gone free, but the real gem of the bunch is BlueCam, an app that is able to turn your iPhone into a wireless camera for your iPad via Bluetooth. Mega Jump ($.99 -> Free): Another jumping game, only this one features an adorable main character and colorful multi-layered backgrounds. In the game you will be controlling a little orange creature via tilt controls.  Instead of jumping on platforms like many other endless games, you will need to collect coins to get a boost.  Other items are scattered about the level that will give you an extra boost as well.  As you progress through the game, coins became more scarce, and if you miss them you will plummet to the ground. The game features unlimited replayability, cute sound effects, and OpenFeint integration. Mega Jump is available for free today only (5/22). MetalWars ($.99 -> Free): A dual-stick shooter that features mechs!  What more could you ask for? More of an action game than your usual dual-stick shooter.  You control a customizable mech and you must plow through the many other enemy mechs that stand in your way.  You are able to switch between weapons in-game since some are more effective than others, and command another AI controlled mech via controls on the left-hand side of the screen.  As you clear levels, you will be able to upgrade your mech with more powerful weapons. MetalWars is available for free for a limited time. 45th Street ($.99 -> Free): A side-scrolling shooter with doodle graphics. 45th Street is a nasty place and you must clean it up.  To do so you must use the weapons you are given to the best of your ability.  You start out with a baseball bat and a knife, but as you progress you will be able to pick up better weapons and upgrade your abilities. The game features a variety of large and small enemies, bonus stages, and OpenFeint integration. 45th Street is available for free today only (5/22). iPad/iPhone: BlueCam ($.99 -> Free): Turns your iPhone into a wireless camera for your iPad via Bluetooth. The app pulls video and audio from your iPhone and displays it right on your iPad.  You can take a picture from either device by simply tapping the preview image, or you can set up a timer and have it take a picture at specified times.  You can also control the zoom level from either device. Photos can be sent to friends via email, uploaded to Facebook, Twitter, or Flickr, or just saved to your camera roll.  The app also features the ability to view the camera's location via Google Maps. BlueCam is a universal app, so you won't have to download different versions in order to run it on both devices.  It does require a Bluetooth-enabled iPhone, however. BlueCam is available for free for a limited time. Limited time can mean almost anything to developers, so don't wait to download any of these great apps.
