Today's list contains not one but two checkers games for iPad that have gone free, and two iPhone games that are free for the first time ever. Slay ($4.99 -> Free): A strategy game that requires you to conquer territories. Slay looks simple on the surface, but there is a well-balanced turn-based strategy game underneath it all. In the game the island is divided up between six AI controlled players, and you must capture your opponent's territory and link it up with your own to create more powerful ones. As the game progresses you can spend your riches to make your units stronger, just be sure to have enough left over to defend your captured territories. Slay is available for free today only (5/29). Alien Escape ($.99 -> Free): A simple action game where you must defend your alien babies. Your ship has crashed on Earth and you must defend yourself and your alien family from the attackers. Although your ship is a mess, you can still shoot at enemies by swinging your gun from side to side and tapping to shoot. The waves just keep coming, but you can obtain bigger and better weapons to ward them off for as long as possible. The game features more than 15 types of enemies, five environments, a handful of different weapons, and OpenFeint integration. Alien Escape is available for free through the weekend. Twin Blades ($2.99 -> Free): A visually appealing side-scroller with zombies. Twin Blades will have you plowing through wave after wave of zombies across varying environments. The game features an on-screen joystick to control the main character, and two action buttons, one to shoot and one to slash. You are equipped with an unlimited number of bullets, but your energy depletes with every shot. You can regain energy by slicing and dicing the zombies into little pieces. The game features six range weapons, upgradeable character skills, dozens of zombie animations and behaviors, and OpenFeint integration. Twin Blades is available for free today only (5/29). iPad only: Table Checkers HD ($1.99 -> Free): Features the ability to play checkers against a friend on the same device. It also features built-in rule enforcement that was developed according to American Checkers/English Draughts. Games that aren't finished in a single sitting remain intact the next time the app is launched. Table Checkers HD does not feature AI. Table Checkers HD is available for free through the weekend. Theme Checkers HD ($.99 -> Free): Also features the ability to play checkers against a friend, but this one actually has AI, so you can play alone if you wish. It currently contains a total of six checker themes with more to come every week, along with instructions on how to create your own. Theme Checkers HD also has rule enforcement. Theme Checkers HD is available for free through the weekend.
