NimbleBit's Omium For iPad Now Available, Grab A Friend And Unleash The Bad Guys
May 26, 2010
Omium, NimbleBit's second iPad game, is now available in the App Store. It's time to grab a friend and unleash hordes of bad guys.
Omium is a top-down shooter that was designed to be played with two players locally on the same iPad. Each player is positioned on either side of the iPad, and one controls the ship and its firing while the other controls the spawning of the bad guys and the direction they head.
Controlling the ship is done by touching and dragging your finger around the screen. You are able to fire your blasters by tapping with your other finger. Your opponent is able to spawn bad guys by tapping on the other side of the screen. You can choose to spawn many small bad guys with a quick tap, or fewer large bad guys by tapping and holding.
You are limited to a certain amount of energy for spawning bad guys and the same can be said for firing blasters. Energy bars are located on each side of the screen so you know how much juice you have left at all times. Energy refills automatically over time.
Unlike most games, being the bad guy is actually rather fun since the person controlling the ship can't actually win. If you are controlling the ship, the idea is to last as long as physically possible without running into a bad guy or, in some cases, allowing a bad guy to reach the bottom of the screen.
Omium includes three different game modes:
- Dodge – Don't let a bad guy touch your ship. You can shoot large bad guys to break them down into a more manageable and destroyable form.
- Juggle – Don't let a bad guy reach the bottom of the screen or touch your ship. Large bad guys bounce back up when a shot is landed, giving you more time to destroy them.
- Infinite – Once again, don't let a bad guy touch your ship. It's similar to Dodge except that bad guys that reach the bottom or edges of the screen will wrap around, so you must dispose of them so they don't build up.
