Rumor: MobileMe May Go Free
MobileMe is a good service, or at least, a great idea. The implementation however has its issues and of course well, there is the price. $99 for a fancy @me.com email address and a bunch of cloud services is a bit hard to swallow. Especially with an increasing amount of free alternatives.
Well, MobileMe's pricing issue might apparently not be one for much longer. According to MacDailyNews, Apple is considering offering the service free of charge:
No timeframe was given for MobileMe to go free, other than: "sooner than later... depends on certain facilities going operational."
That would be a great move and most users believe this should come standard anyway. As to the "facilities going operational", TUAW believes it might have to do with Apple's new server farm in North Carolina, which we've recently seen aerial footage of.
I think MobileMe is ready for massive adoption, but will Apple give it out for free? Only time will tell.
