Carcassonne Now Available For iPhone, iPad Support Coming Later This Year
June 4, 2010
The highly anticipated official iPhone version of the award-winning German tiled-based strategy board game, Carcassonne, has just landed safely in the App Store. Now let's quickly thank The Coding Monkeys and Hans im Glück for making this possible and get right to playing! Oh, you want a quick breakdown first? Fine.
First off, Carcassonne looks better than most digital board games thanks to the loads of original artwork and an interface co-designed by none other than The Iconfactory. The game oozes polish, and the amount of features simply add to the experience.
Carcassonne allows you to play the original board game with up to five players who can be either AI or human controlled. The game can be played via pass and play on the same device, taken online to play against your friends, or you can even play locally over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. The game also features a new Solitaire game mode where you must complete a settlement of a specific size on a budget.
And for those of you just getting into Carcassonne, don't worry, the game contains a comprehensive manual and in-game tutorial.
Developer The Coding Monkeys also intend to add expansion tile sets via in-app purchase via future updates. iPad support will be available via a free update later this year.
Carcassonne is now available for the introductory price of $4.99. Once the free iPad support update is complete and available in the App Store, the game’s price will be raised to $9.99, so get it now.
The reviews in iTunes have been stellar so far, with a total of 69 out of 69 ratings being five-star. If you are a fan of tile-based strategy board games in any way, you absolutely have to check this one out.
