iPhone OS Grew More Than Android In May

June 3, 2010

Apple, Google, RIM, and Symbian are competing almost neck and neck in this huge mobile business. Well, the main battle right now is really just between the iPhone and the Android. The former is on its way to get a major update, the latter just did. Yet, everybody is really curious to find out how fast they're growing and how this competition is playing out.

What you see above is a chart released this Monday by Net Applications who came up with some numbers of their own on web-able mobile devices out there. According to them, the iPhone currently holds 32.81% of the mobile web browsing market. Android, on the other hand, only holds a measly 6.21%. Although both platforms are in fact increasing quickly, it looks as if the iPhone platform will remain on top for a while. As their stats show, Android grew from 5.3% to 6.2% in May, but the iPhone grew faster. Indeed, the iPhone's increase in May was from 30% to almost 33%. However, will the iPhone remain the second largest mobile web browsing platform? Well, the only platform the iPhone has left to conquer is Java ME (Micro Edition) which has been used mainly in older smart phones. Since the majority of new smart phones no longer embed Java ME, it is expected that the iPhone overtaking it is a done deal.
