MyRegistry.com App Takes Barcode Reading To A New Level

June 14, 2010

Make no mistake:  if it’s June, it means that there are a lot of brides ready to walk down the aisle in the next few weeks and months.  Before doing so, brides (and their grooms too) should certainly check out the MyRegistry.com Universal app, which was just released across all iOS platforms.

The MyRegistry.com Universal Wishlist app turns your device into a quick and precise barcode reader. You can visit your favorite stores and scan those items you really want someone else to buy you as a wedding gift.   The information collected can then be sent to the MyRegistry.com website for your family and friends to see, instantly and trouble-free. For future brides, the app can be synced automatically with existing registries at Amazon.com, Crate & Barrel, The Land of Nod, Target, and Williams-Sonoma.  But there is more. For some time now, MyRegistry.com has shifted its attention to other gift-giving events such as birthdays, graduations, holidays and showers.  So, this app is certainly for more than just wedding planners. The app’s most exciting function is its ability to compare prices amongst other stores.  Once you zap a barcode of an item you want into your iPhone, it will instantly show you the prices for the same item at various locations.   While this function is available on existing apps (think RedLaser), the fact that it integrates pretty nicely with an online website, is an added bonus. Also featured is the ability to email eCards to your contacts (as a hint, that yes indeed, you want this item), plus you can find wishlists and registries of other MyRegistry.com users.  For example, if you are the one doing the gift-giving, you can browse a registry, select an item and purchase it directly within the application. This app is available today for $1.99.
