When The Going Gets Tough, Turn To Your iPad: SAS Survival Guide Coming To iPad

June 10, 2010

Trellisys.net turned John "Lofty" Wiseman's million-copy bestselling book, SAS Survival Guide, into a smash hit iPhone app, and now the developer is looking to recreate that same success with an iPad version that contains even more features and fully utilizes the iPad's larger screen. Like the iPhone version, SAS Survival Guide for iPad contains the full text of Wiseman's bestselling book (over 400 pages).  The app is crammed full of survival skills by the former SAS soldier and instructor that will help you survive any situation, anywhere in the world. The iPad version is optimized in a way that makes viewing the vast amount of content more intuitive since you won't be forced to jump in and out of pages as often as the iPhone version requires you to thanks to the new split-view, where lists and categories are displayed on the left and detailed information on the right in landscape mode.  In portrait mode the lists and categories are accessible via a pop-over. Pages can be bookmarked for quick access via the toggleable toolbar at the bottom of each page, along with the ability to increase and decrease the size of the text in a flash. The app now features a "Last read" button that instantly jumps to the previous viewed page.  On top of that, this new and improved iPad version also sports a more comprehensive climate map. SAS Survival Guide for iPad should be hitting the App Store any day now, pending Apple's approval. No price has been announced yet, but just to compare, its iPhone counterpart is currently priced at $6.99, which is about half the price of the book it's based off of. If you would like to learn more about SAS Survival Guide, we have a QuickAdvice review of the iPhone version available.
