Samurai: Way of the Warrior is one of the best looking iPhone games of all time, and thankfully all that beautiful artwork is coming to the iPad in a native HD version. The game is known for the sheer amount of blood and the amazing killing animations as you cut enemies in half or cut their heads right off. What really looks spectacular are the various environments you travel through that are all bursting with 3D depth and intricacies.
If you don’t know the game be sure to check out our review of the iPhone version. It’s a hack and slash game that uses on screen swipe gestures to perform various moves. The game is completely touch based as you tap ahead to walk, and then swipe in sequence to perform combos of sword slashes.
The ipad provides a grand canvas not only for the magnificent visuals, but also the various swiping gestures. This is one iPhone game that is a definite whole new experience on the bigger device. The game features the same deluxe and long lasting story mode as well as three different dojos for closed in non stop fighting.
After playing the preview build it’s similar to the iPhone version, and yet still plenty different. The biggest thing is that your gestures on the iPhone run out of screen real estate, and you never know if you got in the moves you want. That is definitely no longer the case on the iPad.
The game is so immersive on the bigger screen that you’ll want to play through it on the iPad even if you’ve played it on the iPhone. The game is set to be released on July 1st, and we will have a review around that time. See the screenshots in full resolution below, as well as the gameplay in action.
