SmileOnMyMac's popular iPhone and iPod touch snippet saver,
TextExpander touch, has been updated to be a universal app optimized for iPad.
TextExpander touch is able to relieve you of the burden of typing the same relatively long string of text over and over by allowing you to create a snippet that acts as a shortcut. For example, I could create the snippet "addr1" and when typed it would be expanded into my full address. But that's only one example, and I am sure your brain is already coming up with all kinds of other ways to take advantage of this service.
Now that
TextExpander touch is a universal app, composing text and creating snippets should be much easier thanks to the iPad's large screen.
Of course,
TextExpander touch is only as useful as the apps that support it since iOS doesn't allow the it to fully run in the background and expand text in every app you use. You can find the list of supported apps, like
Twitter,
ToDo,
Taskly,
WriteRoom and many more, at
SmileOnMyMac's website. You can also just compose your message in
TextExpander touch and then transfer it to another app if it's not on the list.
As of right now, it appears that there may be a few issues with the new universal version of
TextExpander touch, specifically for iPhone users. According to iTunes user reviews, the iPad optimized portion of the app operates just fine, but the iPhone portion appears to have a bug that causes it to crash. But if you just can't wait to give the app a try on your iPad, you should be safe to download it immediately. Otherwise, just wait for a fix, which we can only imagine will take a few days to push through.
TextExpander touch is available in the App Store for $4.99. The update is free to all current owners.
