TomTom Updated With Multitasking Support, New Maps, And More

June 22, 2010

TomTom put the proverbial pedal to the floor in order to get the new iOS 4 compatible version of their popular turn-by-turn GPS app in your hands, because there is nothing worse than updating your device and then having your apps not work.  Am I right?  But the TomTom v1.4 update isn't just about compatibility, it also brings a load of new features including multitasking support, brand new maps, and more. TomTom v1.4 now allows you to answer or make phone calls without losing your visual instructions.  Another addition in the multitasking department is the ability to hear background navigation instructions even while you are in another app.  No more having to wait for the app to find your position again after closing out, possibly allowing you to miss your next all-important turn. The update includes new map data as well, route sharing via email, the ability to receive departure reminders to make you aware of when you need to hit the road, eco routes to help you reduce your impact on the environment, and last but not least, new car symbols so you can personalize your experience. The TomTom v1.4 update is, of course, free to all existing users.  Both multitasking abilities require at least an iPhone 3GS to utilize.  Be sure to update to this new version if you are already running iOS 4, as the previous version will not function.
