Apple Embarks On Its iAds Journey

July 7, 2010
You may already know that Apple has initiated iAds, the mobile advertising service for iOS. The ads started appearing in apps about a week from companies such as AT&T, Nissan, and Best Buy. What you might not know is how they target certain ads to each user. Apple is now beginning to study iOS users' data in order to show ads appealing to each and every user. "Apple knows what you’ve downloaded, how much time you spend interacting with applications and knows even what you’ve downloaded, don’t like and deleted," stated Rachel Pasqua, an ad agent working with Apple on iAds for her company's clients. Apple does, however, allow users to opt out of the data collection in order to further protect their privacy. This is a very intriguing way of targeting ads, but there are a few privacy concerns from users. It will be interesting to see the turnout of iAds and whether or not it will be successful. Are you going to trust Apple with your data? After all, they did design that wonderful device you are holding. via Bloomberg
