Apple Delays The White iPhone 4 Once Again

July 23, 2010

Bad news for everyone still waiting for a white iPhone 4 (or planning to get their black one swapped), Apple just delayed it yet again.

Originally due to ship along with the black model, Apple announced shortly after the iPhone 4 launch that the white model was more challenging to manufacture than expected. At that time, Apple stated that the white model would therefore not be available before the end of July. Unfortunately, it seems this extension wasn't long enough. In a press release issued this morning, Apple announced the following:

"Statement by Apple on White iPhone 4

White models of Apple's new iPhone® 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected, and as a result they will not be available until later this year. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected."

Ouch, this doesn't come at a very good time, as Steve confirmed this model's arrival just a week ago. This is unusual for Apple, and is precisely one of the reasons Apple doesn't normally reveal its product plans and maintains so much secrecy. They must hate being in this situation, and I'm pretty sure the mood isn't great in Cupertino right now.

As for why the further delay, Apple didn't say anything. Rumor has it that they're still looking for just the right white.
