iPhone 4 Web Browsing Speed - How Does It Compare?

July 9, 2010

In the past, several sites have compared two mobile devices side-by-side to see which device had a faster web browsing experience, and the iPhone is no exception. Many users have wondered how much faster Safari on the new iPhone 4 could really be. With the change from a tri-band radio on the iPhone 3GS to the new penta-band radio on the iPhone 4, how is data speed affected? Let's find out!

iPhone 4 - vs - iPhone 3GS

Here is a nice little comparison video from Obama Pacman showing how the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 compare. The video shows how fast each device (4 on the left, 3GS on the right) can load different sites in mobile and desktop versions. Each test was run only on 3G, as Wi-Fi was turned off. The video clearly shows how much of a difference two more bands can make. Even when Obama Pacman was a little late clicking a link on the iPhone 4, it still won by a landslide. iPhone 4 - vs - iPhone 3G Although the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 4 were designed two years apart with the iPhone 4 obviously faster, ZDNet just had to see for themselves. The ZDNet guys took screenshots of each of the devices while they were running apps like SpeedTest.net and the Xtreme Labs speed test, two apps that measure the average download/upload speed on a device. The result? Just take a look at these screenshots:

So how does the iPhone 4 compare to the iPhone 3G and 3GS? There's no comparison as to who wins - the iPhone 4.
