July 8, 2010
Today's list features an invaluable exercise tracking app, a moon viewer for your iPad, and as always, quite a few quality games.
Runtastic Pro ($5.99 -> Free): Whether you run, cycle, hike, skate, ski, Runtastic Pro can help simply track or improve your results. The app uses your device's built-in GPS to record time, distance, calories burned, speed, elevation, and more, and places your position and route on a map. It automatically archives your information so you can view how you previously performed. It even features options to share your activities, compete against a friend, or manually input information.
Runtastic Pro is available for free today only (7/8). It has a four-star rating.
Angry Viking ($1.99 -> Free): A stylized hack and slash game that's violent and bloody. Angry Viking is entirely black and white, well, except for the pools of red blood. Run around and cut down your enemies to obtain the highest score before you run out of health yourself. The game features three modes of play, local high scores, and power-ups.
Angry Viking is available for free until July 11th. It has a three-and-a-half-star rating.
Build-a-lot ($1.99 -> Free): A strategy game by Glu Mobile that turns you into a real estate mogul. Build, buy, and sell houses, and send the real estate market through the roof. The game features two modes of play, 35 levels in eight neighborhoods, eight types of buildings, and six types of homes.
Build-a-lot is available for free today only (7/8). It has a four-star rating.
Angry Viper Vicky ($.99 -> Free): A unique casual game where you control Viper Vicky who is starving and looking for tasty creatures to eat. You have one minute to eat as many items as possible, but watch out for the icky spiders because Vicky is not a fan of those. Apples will randomly appear and, when eaten, will add more time to the clock.
Angry Viper Vicky is available for free today only (7/8). It has a four-star rating.
Seconds... ($.99 -> Free): A ridiculously simple yet difficult game. The object is to tap and hold your finger on the screen for the indicated amount of time and then let go. You must end up being within .1 second of the indicated time to advance to the next level, and your stats can be viewed at the bottom of the screen. You get three tries per target time. The game also features OpenFeint integration.
Seconds... is available for free for an undisclosed amount of time. It has a three-star rating.
iPad only:
Moon Globe HD ($.99 -> Free): A virtual globe of the Earth's moon. Satellite imagery and laser altimeter data are matched with the iPad's graphics capabilities to render the moon with incredible realism. The moon can be manipulated in realtime 3D just by tapping and dragging. A cloud of tags floats just above the surface, labeling terrain features and spacecraft, and by touching a tag, more information will be displayed. You can also zoom in on the surface by pinching and pulling.
Moon Globe HD is available for free for an undisclosed amount of time. It doesn't currently have a rating.
Jumpo HD ($1.99 -> Free): A jumping game where you must climb to the top before time expires. The game features many obstacles and power-ups, and the ability to control your character three different ways. It also features four different environments.
