Microsoft Office Comes To iPad, Sort Of

While users wait for an iPad version of the popular Microsoft Office Suite, the number of Office training apps continues to grow for Apple’s device.
Microsoft Outlook users can now use their iPads to learn more about the top-selling mail program. Last Syllable Systems Inc. just released Discover Outlook 2007 HD - Part 1, which is packed full of training information for Outlook users. This follows the recent releases of similar training apps by the company for Excel, PowerPoint and Word 2007. Each is denoted with an “HD” after the title. Last Syllable produces training materials for Microsoft Office as well as a series called Basic Computing I and II. Its goal is to produce apps for people at work, home and on the road, or so their saying goes. Their training material covers the Windows versions of each application. I test-drove Discover Outlook 2007 HD - Part 1 and found it impressive. For those users that need hands-on (and mobile) Office training, nothing beats being able to download these apps and take them with you. The iPad’s screen is the perfect size for dedicated learning. Each iPad app is priced at $9.99. It should go without saying, but, please be aware that these are training apps and do not contain fully-functional versions of any of the applications that make up the Office Suite. Hopefully, someday Microsoft will release Office for the iPad. Versions of the training apps are also available for iPhone and iPod touch.
