July 18, 2010
With Apple's iAd network just released, its future success in the mobile ad market remains an unknown. Still, we do know the majority of today's mobile ad requests are on the Apple iOS platform.
This news comes from Mobile ad network Millennial Media. They recently released their June MobileMix survey, that looks at trends in mobile advertising. In the survey, the company reported that 56 percent of global mobile ad impressions were on an Apple device. This compares to RIM (17 percent) and the Android OS (11 percent). Clearly, advertisers see Apple as the best place to put their resources. In ad impressions, Apple’s iOS saw 8 percent growth month-over month. RIM's share dropped 2 percent, and the Android OS dropped 4 percent over the same time period.
In terms of which mobile devices are getting the most ad impressions, Apple again shows its strength: Devices using iOS account for a 30 percent share of impressions in June. The iPhone itself accounts for 22.61 percent of the total mobile ad market in terms of impressions. Millennial Media reaches 82 percent of the 72 million mobile web users. As such, its monthly findings are watched very closely by the mobile advertising industry.
