Saturday is "Appsgiving Day!"
July 10, 2010
Here's a great idea for app lovers, gift-givers and developers too: Saturday is "Appsgiving Day." The "holiday" is the creation of the iWishApp which is described as "the newest and coolest übersocial iPhone/iPod/iPad apps wishlist, bookmarking and discovery tool." Surprisingly, the app itself isn't available yet in the App Store (so you can't gift it), but you can follow its developers on Twitter.
"Appsgiving Day" highlights the App Store feature "Gift This App" wherein you can choose an app to give to someone you are thinking about or love. Saturday is the 2nd anniversary of the App Store, so the "Appsgiving Day" tie-in is very cool.
In addition to encouraging the timeless act of giving, "Appsgiving Day" can help out the hard-working app developers by increasing sales of apps that others might not normally buy for themselves.
"Gift This App" is simple to use: Go to the App Store and find the app that you wish to gift. From there, click on the icon to the right of the "Buy App" button and select "Gift This App."
Next, you will be presented with the following "Give A Gift" page:
All you have to do is fill in the recipient's name, email address, and the personal message to be included with the gift.
You decide whether to email the gift directly to the recipient or print a nice card to present to them with the gift in person. They receive a promo code to download the app and you, as the gift-giver, are charged the purchase price of the app.
