Share Your Drawings On The Web In Real Time With WebPad For iPad
July 23, 2010
In a hurry and need to show a basic diagram to a coworker who is in a remote location? Want to display your affection for a loved one with a picture in the middle of the day? Ever feel like playing a remote game of Pictionary? WebPad for iPad is able to do all of this and more within a few ridiculously simple steps.
WebPad for iPad is a brand new drawing app that allows you to share drawings on the Internet in real time, and the best part is it's beyond easy to use, making its applications nearly limitless.
To get your handy work in front of an online audience, you must first launch WebPad on your iPad and sign up for a free account, which assigns you your own name and URL to share with friends. As you can see in the image above, my URL to share is http://webpad.hk/pads/15. It will always be available and will never change, allowing you to have a 24 hour live drawing feed of your very own. After you are all set up, it's time to draw.
WebPad currently features five different colors -- including white, which is basically your eraser, three different brush sizes, and the ability to clear the page with one tap. Draw, write, doodle, just do as you please and your special page will display exactly what you are doing in real time. If you spin your iPad from landscape to portrait mode, or vice versa, it will be reflected online as well.
But what's the point if you don't have an audience? You can share the URL manually (it's always displayed in the top bar of the app), or you can email a link via the app. Friends and family can then choose to comment, and even share your work themselves via a myriad of social networking sites.
WebPad is a little low on extra features, however. The color selection is very slim, as is the brush size selection. Once you sign up for an account, you can't change your display name. The app also doesn't allow you to interact with your viewers in any way, so the comments being posted must be viewed on the website. According to the developer, some of these issues, along with others like the ability to save drawings on the iPad, VGA output, and even more sharing options, will be addressed in future updates.
At the moment though, WebPad is at the very least a nifty way for you to instantly share what's on your mind, and for $3.99, it's not too big of a risk.
