World Window Not Worth The Trip
July 13, 2010
If your summer won’t include an exotic trip abroad, the World Window app for iPad might be for you. Developed by OPEN UP, the app offers views of fifteen world locations using 360 degree panoramic pictures.
The app includes photos from Namibia, France, Italy, Australia, Algeria, Greece, Egypt, Tunisia, Bolivia, Turkey and England. Users select a location and then use their fingers to move around the photo. A different photo is presented each time the app starts-up, and it's very easy to use. Each photo is amazing in detail but grainy. I found each lacking the crispness more professional photos offer. Plus, as anyone visiting a popular site will recognize, some of the photos include shots of tourists that take away from the beauty. This is fine for family vacation photos, but certainly not in a costly iPad app. For example, look at this photo of Rome’s Pantheon: The developers compare the app to the popular Weather HD and Magic Windows - Living Pictures, but regretfully, the app is limited and pricey. At $2.99 and only including fifteen panoramic photos, World Window is expensive. But, it is cheaper than visiting each site in person.
