New App Helps Finding Missing Pets

August 25, 2010
Between 6 and 8 million family pets find themselves in shelters each year, because they get lost. Now, there is a new app that helps owners reunite with their furry friends. The folks at HomeAgain have recently released the PetRescuers app for iPhone/iPod touch. The free app is primarily for those that happen to find or see a lonely pet in their neighborhood.

The app is tied directly to the HomeAgain site, a site dedicated to reuniting owners and man's best friend. Using your iPhone's GPS settings, the app gives you a list of missing pets by proximity, by photo, and by the date the pet went missing. You can even bring up a map that shows you all the missing pets in your area. Then, if you find the pet, the app will give you instructions on what to do next.

Reunited pets are also shown on the app, along with the pet owner's story about the reunion! I found this very nice and some of the stories were quite heartwarming. Obviously, not every lost pet will find its way onto the app. After all, owners need to first alert HomeAgain that their pet is missing. And someone will need an iPhone (and the app) to utilize the service. Still, this is a great tool and one that will grow in popularity! Download the free PetRescuers app for iPhone/iPod touch today and find a missing pet! You will be glad that you did!
