Apple Exploring iPod App For Cyclers

August 7, 2010

Bicycling enthusiasts are about to join runners in feeling some Apple love. According to a recent patent request, the Cupertino-based company is designing an app that will track a biker's trip. For some time, runners have had this ability thanks to the Nike Plus system available for iPods.

The Smart Bicycle System will monitor speed, distance, time, altitude, elevation, incline/decline, heart rate and more. According to the patent request, single bikers or a team of bikers wirelessly connected will be able to use the system. There is no word whether the system will be tied to the Nike system, but I would be surprised if it is not. With new iPods expected to hit the market next month, don't be surprised if we hear more from Apple about these features at that time.
