Apple Offering App Volume Discounts

August 10, 2010

Educational institutions can now take advantage of Apple's new App Store Volume Purchase Program. The Volume Purchase Program also allows app developers to offer special pricing for purchases of 20 apps or more.

This is especially important since many schools are now requiring students to purchase an iPhone/iPod touch or iPad. With the new discount, educators can pass those savings onto the students or roll them into the tuition costs. Authorized Purchasers can buy Volume Vouchers on behalf of an educational institution. These can be purchased in denominations of $100, $500, $1,000, $5,000 or $10,000. Institutions will have to create new Apple IDs for the App Store Volume Purchase Program. These are separate from personal iTunes accounts and won't be able to access the App Store to download music or any other content. Apple is definitely going to make the educational community happy with this new program! For more information on this new program, visit the Volume Discount Support Page at Apple.com.
