Report: Intel Could Become iPhone Supplier
August 3, 2010
Intel Corporation is everywhere, but so far its hardware is not in iPhones. This could change if the Santa Clara, California-based company acquires Infineon Technologies AG.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Intel is in advanced talks to acquire the Germany-based wireless chip unit. It currently provides cellular based chips to Apple and other phone makers. The deal is valued at $2 billion US. According to Cult of Mac, Intel criticized the iPhone in 2008 saying, “the iconic handset could not fully access the Internet without an Intel-made system." Times do change, apparently. Infineon was founded in 1999 when it was spun-off from Siemens AG.
