iPhone And iPad Apps Gone Free: Gyrotate, Stick Hero, Bowman Defense And Al's Comedy Club
August 11, 2010
Today's list contains only four apps because we had some difficulties finding apps that have gone free with at least a three-star rating. But we're pretty sure you will be pleased with the ones we were able to track down.
Disclaimer: All prices are subject to change at any time and without notice regardless of stated free duration.
Gyrotate ($.99 -> Free): A matching game where you must spin four different layers to match four-like colored pieces. Moving a layer is accomplished by simply touching and dragging. Each level has a specific quota of matches to fulfill before the time expires. The game features colorful doodle graphics, smooth gameplay, three levels of difficulty, power-ups, and OpenFeint integration.
Gyrotate is available for free today only (8/11). It has a four-star rating, and a total of 271 ratings.
Stick Hero ($.99 -> Free): A running game with a stick man for a hero. Tap the screen quickly to make a short jump, or tap and hold to jump further. Spikes are constantly pushing you forward, which is a bit of a problem since some platforms have walls protruding out of them. You can smash the walls by double tapping, however. Power-ups can be obtained by making your stick hero move over them. The game features OpenFeint integration as well.
Stick Hero is available for free today only (8/11). It has a three-star rating, and a total of 78 ratings.
Bowman Defense ($1.99 -> Free): A castle defense game where you must draw your bow by sliding your finger from right to left, and then just let go to fire. As you progress through the game, you will be able to obtain new arrows and power-ups. The game features 15 types of enemies, 30 missions and local leaderboards.
Bowman Defense is available for free today only (8/11). It has a three-star rating, and a total of 54 ratings.
Universal:
Al's Comedy Club ($4.99 -> Free): Features over 200 studio recorded and professionally performed jokes, which apparently amounts to over four hours worth of jokes. You can listen to jokes one at a time, or play through all of them at once. The punchlines are separated from the joke, so reading ahead won't ruin it for you. The app also features the ability to search for specific jokes, the ability to rate jokes, a global top 10 list, the ability to add jokes to a favorites list, and much more.
As a warning, this is a 17+ app since it contains profanity, sexuality and suggestive themes.
Al's Comedy Club is available for free today only (8/11). It has a three-star rating, and a total of 24 ratings.
Developers:
If you are a developer who would like to get your app included in our “Apps Gone Free” daily lists, here’s our basic set of rules:
- The app must be free for at least one whole day.
- It must have at least a three-star average rating at the time it goes free.
- The app must not have been free numerous times (3+) over the last six months.
