Today's list is relatively slim, but if you count our two universal apps twice, it isn't so bad at all, right? Anyway, today's list features a spartan hero game, an IRC chat client, a particle manipulator and more.

Spartan Hero ($1.99 -> Free): A casual action game where you are a spartan hero wielding a shield, and you must defend yourself by simply changing the angle of the shield via touch controls. Arrows, fireballs, aliens, and even bicycles with spikes approach from the front, and you must do your best job swiftly moving the shield up and down to protect your body. Score bonuses will fly through the air as well, requiring you to lift your shield at the right moment to obtain them. The game features three different modes of play, and OpenFeint integration.
Spartan Hero is available for free for the next week. It has a three-star rating, and a total of seven ratings.
BubbleGum ($2.99 -> Free): An orb launching game that features doodle graphics. Simply fire colored orbs from the bottom of your screen in order to match them with three or more like-colored orbs. The game features easy to learn controls, bonus bubbles, local and global leaderboards, and two screen modes.
BubbleGum is available for free for a limited time. It has a three-star rating, and a total of 38 ratings.
Universal:
Rooms - Your iPhone IRC Chat Client ($1.99 -> Free): An IRC client based on Chat Core that provides you with access to every IRC network in the world. Even if you haven't used IRC before, it isn't a problem since the app gives you a preselected list of channels to start chatting. You can find other rooms by searching, start your own room and invite friends, add chat rooms to favorites, and much more.
Rooms is available for free for the next three days. It has a four-star rating, and a total of 10 ratings.
PushyPixels ($.99 -> Free): A colorful entertainment app where your fingers control particles. Add as many fingers as you want and see what happens to the particles. You can adjust all kinds of settings as well, ranging from color cycle rate to gravitational force. The app runs smoothly on all iDevices, but an iPhone 4 or iPad is required for motion blur.
PushyPixels is available for free for an undisclosed amount of time. It has a four-star rating, and a total of 11 ratings.
iPad only:
Spartan Hero HD ($1.99 -> Free): Just like the iPhone version above, only with graphics optimized for iPad.
Spartan Hero HD is available for free for the next three days. It doesn't currently have an average rating, but since it so closely resembles the iPhone version, we decided to include it anyway.

If you are a developer who would like to get your app included in our “Apps Gone Free” daily lists, here’s our basic set of rules:
- The app must be free for at least one whole day.
- It must have at least a three-star rating at the time it goes free.
- The app must not have been free numerous times (3+) over the last six months.
