iShoot 2 Allows iPad Gamers To Join In On The Tank Blasting Fun

August 16, 2010
As we briefly mentioned in today's Apps Gone Free, iShoot 2, the sequel to the hit artillery game by Ethan Nicholas, is now available in the App Store.  Many of you longtime AppAdvice readers may recall the story of the original iShoot and how it netted the former Sun Microsystems engineer a princely sum, but if you haven't, we recommend checking it out.  It's an interesting tale of a first-time iPhone app developer hitting it big during the App Store's infancy.  Nicholas probably won't be expecting the same type of success with this sequel nearly two years later, but at least it gives the original's fanbase something new to sink their teeth into. iShoot 2 is a turn-based artillery game where you control a single tank set on a mountainous landscape, and you must fire shots through the air with the goal of taking out your opponents that are scattered around the territory before they do the same to you.  The game utilizes the same formula as the original, which can be expected, but gameplay has been enhanced in a variety of ways, plus this sequel is a universal app, allowing iPad owners to join in on the fun. iShoot 2 sports larger and more detailed landscapes than the original, which can be panned and zoomed for greater shot efficiency.  Shooting is a little different this time around as well, as iShoot 2 sports an adjustable power meter as opposed to a timing-based fire button.  This makes those all-important follow-up shots much easier to land.   Other changes and additions include a refined weapon creation system, new rules, local Bluetooth multiplayer, upgradable tanks, improved sound and soundtrack and Retina display optimization. So far fans of the original haven't fully embraced this sequel, but since the original iShoot is now available for free in celebration of the release of iShoot 2, comparing the two yourself shouldn't be too difficult or expensive. iShoot 2 is available for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad for $2.99.
