Jailbreak Only: Wi-Fi Sync To Bring Remote iTunes Syncing To Your iDevice

August 4, 2010

Remember Wi-Fi Sync (our review), the awesome wireless iTunes syncing app for your iDevices? Well, it's apparently about to get a whole lot better. We're hearing the next version is bringing something we've all been expecting from Apple for a while now; Remote syncing.

It's not iTunes in the cloud yet, as you'll still have to have your computer on at home. Yet, it will allow you to sync your iPhone (including the iPhone 4) or iPad remotely with your computer over 3G. We're not quite sure how it will work, but as Wi-Fi Sync already requires a desktop companion, it's probably just a matter of letting people remotely find it and establish a connection.

The feature will come with Wi-Fi Sync 2, the second iteration of the app and should pack some more features and bug fixes. However, it won't be available for a couple of weeks, so don't get too excited just yet. Also, the feature might only come as a in-app purchase as it requires the developer to set up some extra servers.

As usual, we'll keep you posted.
